Worthless Trash Update - THE MOSS POLES

Those who have heard One Summer by The Moss Poles will know what a wonderful record it is. If you haven't heard it, you've been seriously missing out for the past 22 years. Info and audio now at Worthless Trash.

SMALL WONDER MAIL ORDER CATALOGUE, MAY 1983 (part 3)

Three more pages from that old Small Wonder catalogue. Lots of nice cheapos on offer from these pages including one of my personal favourites Rejection by Pure Product. Page 10 has the Mondo Billie Davies single for 25p, a record I've never heard and one that no one seems to be able to confirm a release date for. The fact that it's reduced here tells us it's highly unlikely to have been released later than 1980 with the smart money being on either 1978 or 1979.

Worthless Trash Update - VITAL DISORDERS

Vital Disorders sound like a totally different band on each track on their Prams EP. Worthless Trash likes what they do on Tough Times best. More info and audio at http://www.worthlesstrash.co.uk/

EVERYBODY'S ON REVOLVER TONITE

video

So sang 'O' Level on one of the tracks on their The Malcolm EP. On one particular Saturday evening in the summer of 1978 that 'everybody' extended to top Birmingham cabaret punk band Brent Ford And The Nylons.

This show-stealing performance saw Brent Ford And The Nylons race through two of the three tracks on their only single, namely 19th Nervous Breakdown and C'mon Everybody. Some of the Nylons were concerned that they could have problems signing on the dole on Monday morning after appearing on TV over the weekend, so Revolver's producer Mickie Most suggested they wear stockings over their heads.

THE MOD/POWERPOP VERSION OF THE RRPG

Nice discography/price guide by Ingo Eitelbach from the early 90's, spanning 36 x A5 pages. I think I got this from Detour Records rather than direct from Ingo. Interesting in that it reveals which records were considered collectable back then and which ones are missing from the list not yet discovered. I remember being quite surprised at the value quoted for the first Killermeters single with a picture sleeve being £60-90, but of course Ingo was right. There's a few little quotes here and there from Ingo like... 'someone (????) bids me £25 for it!!!' next to Ronnie Mayor's single Can't Wait 'Til The Summer Comes and 'best lyrics ever!' for The Winkers Song by Ivor Biggun.

BULLSHIT DETECTED

Special Duties are featured on the latest update at Worthless Trash. Having a pop at everyones favourite anarchists brought them quite a bit of heat. The song Bullshit Crass isn't that hot though, so we'll avoid that and let you hear the much better B-side You're Doing Yourself No Good.

Special Duties vocalist Steve Arrogant made this tongue in cheek comment when interviewed for the book Burning Britain a couple of years back...

'It sold quite well, but that may have been because it looked a bit like a Crass record, and their fans were so stupid they thought it was one.'

SMALL WONDER MAIL ORDER CATALOGUE, MAY 1983 (part 2)

Here's pages 7-9 from the May '83 Small Wonder catalogue, again click on the pictures below to get readable versions. Back then no one cared about the Fast Cars so Mari reduced it to 25p ...or how about a Fire Exit for 50p ...or some cheap Homosexuals?

TOO MUCH INFORMATION

A much under-rated single is Silex Pistols by Belgian female duo Too Much. The french pressing on Pathe Marconi is fairly easy to find (and usually cheap). Much more elusive is this German issue on EMI...

It's common knowledge that the Lacomblez/Vanholme songwriting and production credits link the record to some of the people behind Plastic Bertrand's early work. This promo insert, that came with the German copy I have, gives us a little insight into who the girls were...

It's all in German, mind you, but various online tools can help out there. The story goes that Cathy and Francoise met each other in 1975 at Photographic School and later formed Too Much to help fund their studies. Not at lot, but at least it's something. Now, who's got the goods on Johnny Palermo? ...or better still, can anyone tell us what possessed Bobby Ranger to totally trash his past with the sublime Flemish punk classic Punke Punke?

QUEENS ON THE CORNER

A rare trip across the Atlantic for the latest update at the Worthless Trash website, where you can now listen to Josie Cotton's powerpop classic Johnny Are You Queer?
