THE FRIENDLY HOPEFULS

'The Punks Of 76 Medley' was the brainchild of one time Sex Pistols producer Dave Goodman. Not only did Goodman produce the record but he also played bass. The other musicians were Dan Wiseman (a tape operator at Spaceward Studios) on guitar and Andrew Bor (ex Users) on drums. The vocals were supplied by ex Eater frontman Andy Blade except on 'Liar' where the Rotten impersonation was done by David Speirs. Wiseman, Bor and Speirs were all playing in a Cambridge based band called Sinix at the time this was recorded.

ENGLISH BOYS

The English Boys discography listing looks like this...

New wave/pop from Steve Jolley and various other in-housers at Red
Bus Studios. A 1981 album was released only in Spain and Portugal.

THE ENTERTAINER / DANNY
7" ................ EMI RB-101 ................................. -/78.

THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING / TV GIRLS
7" ................ Red Bus RBUS-52 ........................... 04/80.

Of the above it's the song 'TV Girls' that's worth getting excited about. The album mentioned was called 'On The Edge' and is probably a bit hit and miss. In Portugal a further single featuring a nice poppy new wave number called 'Kids' was released. As if the record wasn't scarce enough, early copies came housed in the above super-rare 'English Bogs' typo sleeve.

COLE YOUNGER

You can tell that Cole Younger was at least aware of the new wave if not yet fully committed when he recorded 'She's Not My Lover' in late '77. It didn't make the cut for the 45 Revolutions book but perhaps should have if only for the fact it's a great record. As well as the records listed on the discography there was a 1984 single on Rak Records coupling 'Fool' with 'Shake Rattle And Cole' credited to Cole, but does anyone know if I've missed out any mid-70's records?
