THE SEIZE - 'Why?'

Why Not? NOT-001, 1980.

01 - Why?
02 - Grovelands Road

Colin Newton - vocals/bass, Julian Stafford - lead guitar, Andy Stafford - rhythm guitar, David 'Chewy' Newton - drums.

There's a bit of love for the 2nd Seize 45 over at the Terminal Boredom Forum, so thought I'd put the debut by Reading's finest on here (again!). This double 'B' side is definitely one of the best UK punk singles from the early 80's. The first pressing (500 copies) appeared at the tail-end of 1980 with printed labels (black ink) glued over blank white labels, before a further 1,000 copies were pressed in January 1981 with rubber stamped labels (red ink).

There were a few line up changes over further records with the Newton brothers being the main-stays. Ross Diamond played guitar on the 2nd 45 (1982) but left before their third (1984) which I recall had more noticeable pop hooks. There was also a 6 track mini-LP from a reformed 1989 version of the band which I've never heard.

Colin Newton was later in Oizone who did some daft Oi! covers of pop hits for Damaged Goods Records in the late 90's. Another ex Oizone told me there was a retro comp of Seize material planned for release, but 2 years on and still nothing.

BRENDA & THE RATTLESNAKES - 'I'm Bored'

Active ACT-3, 1980.

01 - I'm Bored
02 - We're Okay

The 1st of two singles by ex Hot Water vocalist Brenda Prescott. Not as good as the other single but still worth picking up. Brenda's own composition 'We're Okay' would have made a better A-side in my opinion. 'I'm Bored' was written by Jeff Taylor, another ex Hot Water member, who likely plays sax on this. No details of the other Rattlesnakes so if anyone has the info leave a comment. My copy is a demo and there seems to be a few of these around. As for stock copies, well I'm not sure I've come across any.
